Aim and object

For the socio-economic and cultural development this institution takes following aims and objects by creating contemporary theatre based drama practice as an essential part of mass-peoples life.

By creating Theatre Unit to spread the theatre based drama countrywide regular drama exhibition and to increase the activities of arts of drama.

By a combined drama practice to create a combination of drama and drama based manpower. For organizing workshops, meeting, seminar, symposium and drama festival.

To create professionals in the field of drama, making opportunity for the Unit Command and relevant artist as their field of profession and to create repertory theatre.

To establish modern auditorium for playing drama and drama school, library and information center.

Helping to develop theater related other performing arts.

To accelerate adult education by theatre.

Honoring countrywide unknown theater artist by re-exploring.

To increase the participation of women in theatre.

To create interest and giving financial help in publication and production of fundamental drama.

To uplift the hilly inhabitants of Chittagong Hill Tracts and to focus on their local culture and custom by research and orienting them in the national culture.

To resuscitated the folk culture arranging culture fair and festival.

To remove psychosis or psychopath by the scientific way of theatre such as psychodrama or verbal therapy.

THEATRE THARAPY CENTER FOR THE DISABLED. Unite Theatre for Social Action (UTSA) was launched in 1997 with a view to delineating Various Social injustices through histrionics on the stages UTSA aims at developing a series of theatre units that serve specific social issues. Thus UTSA tries sincerely to create social awareness in the minds of people because the ultimately goal of UTSA is to up the movement for a society free from inequalities. Theatrical performances of UTSA are not conventionally one sided ones because not only the trained performers but the audiences do take parts in the plays as well UTSA has already established as many as 23 such type of theatre units. Some of the important ones are theatre units for various issues, such as Psychodrama. Theatre therapy, rehabilitation of the drug addicted, prisoners, prostitutes, working children, working women and many such others. Theatre is one of the dominant mediums of artistic expressions. It is as old as human civilization. It is not limited to entertaining the audience; rather it is a powerful medium of molding public opinion. Even as a medium of instruction it has gained popularly. Now a days it is modern use has been found in the medical sciences. Theatre coupled with medical treatment has formed a new esthetical media come medical phenomenon called theatre therapy. Theatre therapy deals with mentally retarded and physically handicapped patients. This theatre therapy has so many branches, which implement different cases of various types of disables. Psycho-drama for mentally retarded patients, Verbal-Drama for deaf and dumb, physically handicapped ones. American psychologist Jacobs L. Monoro (1889-1974) was the first theoretician and practitioner that introduced Psycho-therapy like theatre. The very method he employed was studying particular cases of patients. This theatre focuses the mantle and physical behavior of individual and society as well and this tries to help remedy the sickness of the concerned individual and society. Italian psychotherapist Dr. Amerigo Merino was the pioneer in dealing with handicapped and disables. UNITE THEATRE FOR SOCIEL ACTION (UTSA) is the first organization in Bangladesh that has been working and promoting this idea in the aforesaid fields. International disability day 2000 and 2001 observed by UTSA arranged a seminar about Theatre therapy for disable and organized some community meeting with the participations of journalist, development worker and disable parents. UTSA (Unite Theatre for Social Action) has already been working alone with Chittagong Mentally Retarded Institute organized by SWID Bangladesh, Chittagong high care and hearing center, Chittagong device center (CDC), DISABLE CAPM organized by YPSA and also world vision Bangladesh (Chittagong ADP) disable beneficiary. Our experience well leads us to open up a residential THEATRE THAREPY CENTER FOR THE DISABLE (TTCD) at which all sorts of disable patients will receive theatre therapy.
